Kathmandu Nightlife Guide 2026: Where Locals Actually Go

April 15, 2026 · Kata Jaam? Team

Kathmandu after midnight is a different city. Here's the 2026 guide to what's worth doing, where locals actually go, and how to avoid the traps.

The neighbourhoods

Thamel is loud, touristy, and has the widest selection — from live rock bars to dance clubs. Good for first-timers and tourists.

Durbarmarg is where the bigger, more commercial clubs live. Expect cover charges on weekends and longer queues.

Jhamsikhel is the craft cocktail and local DJ scene — quieter, more neighbourhood-y, and usually where locals end up after Thamel closes.

Patan & Boudha offer a different pace — live music, poetry, and more cultural evening events.

Cover charges & guest lists

Most Durbarmarg clubs charge between NPR 500–1,500 on weekends, often with a minimum spend on drinks. Ladies' nights (usually Wednesdays) often waive covers entirely.

Kata Jaam? lists which events have guest list options — worth RSVP'ing in advance.

When to arrive

  • Live music: 7–9 PM
  • Bars: 9–11 PM
  • Clubs: 11 PM onwards

Most clubs close around 2–3 AM on weekends, earlier on weekdays.

Safety & transport

Pathao and InDrive run late. Cabs queue near Thamel Chowk and Durbarmarg. If you're on a bike, many bars have valet parking.
