NPR 500 Saurav Thapa Shrestha is a heritage explorer and storyteller documenting the living heritage of the Kathmandu Valley. Through walks, photography, and visual storytelling, he brings forgotten histories, traditions, and everyday cultural landscapes to life, inviting people to look closer, connect deeper, and discover identity through heritage. thapashrestha.saurav We begin at the two-storeyed Ganesh shrine at Chabahil, one of the four principal Vinayak temples of the Kathmandu Valley, taking a look around the shrine and its surrounding deities, including Saraswati, Bhairav, Vishnu, and Hanuman. From there, we walk to the Buddhist shrine at Dhando Chaitya, a Lichhavi-era shrine housing deity images such as Avalokitesvara, Vasuki, and Vajrasattva. Next, we continue to Thathu Bahi, a monastery belonging to the Sakya community, home to the shrine of the kwapa-dya. We end the walk at Kothu Bahi, with its shrine to Akshobhya and a sangha of two lineages who carry on centuries-old ritual duty as dya-palas. . . . . .
